Album Review
KINGDOM COME was formed as a US/ German Hard Rock band in 1987. Founding member Lenny Wolf is the only original part of the band and the creative force. With ‘Outlier’, the 14th studio record has been released, but the most successful one so far was the self-titled debut from 1988. ‘Outlier’ was written and produced entirely by Lenny Wolf and includes ten songs, ranging from classical hard rock to more experimental rock. Resemblances to and influences of LED ZEPPELIN are very obvious and apparent, especially in the vocals and the guitar parts. The opener ‘God Does Not Sing Our Song’ is moderate and without any tensions or surprises. ‘Running High Distortion’ and ‘Let The Silence Talk’ are up-tempo songs with electric, distorted effects.
‘The Trap Is Alive’ is probably the most straight-forward track of the album, with allusions to AC/DC. The beginning of ‘The Trap Is Alive’ sounds incredibly like Led Zeppelin and is a good song but unfortunately with a rip-off character. In general, ‘Outlier’ is technical well made, the instrumentation fits, the production is maybe a bit too undifferentiated and too shallow. Unfortunately, KINGDOM COME (or rather Lenny Wolf) lack innovation and originality - the songs are nice to listen to, but the influences are too apparent and there is no tension or development included. Mostly, it is relatively unspectacular and no unexpected changes occur. In such cases, an interesting and fruitful atmosphere might help to create a good listening experience. Yet, the songs flow by and are somehow mediocre and a bit boring.
