Album Review
Soon, particularly tomorrow, German band KATZE, surrounding creative head Claus Cornfield are going to release their album ‘Du Bist Meine Freunde’. Actually planned for a release in April, the release had to be postponed. But now only a large-scale disaster could prevent that record from being released. This digital release is followed up by the physical one on 23rd July, just in case you rather want to have something in your hands. Let’s have a little look at the album now, which begins with ‘Franzi Wir Wollen, Dass Du Bei Uns In Der Band Mitmachst’ that has got a good groove to start an album, but lyrics I’m not getting yet. Maybe I’m just putting too much thought into finding out and should let the solution come to me. The most prominent feature of ‘Bei Mir Wird Immer Alles Schmutzig’, apart from the bleepy melody is that it has clever lyrics, describing very aptly a life that has lost all structure; just living and not doing anything else beyond, letting it all go to waste.
I’m not sure, but the alarm signal permeating the title track must be coming from one of those police cars, children used to play with in the past before there were several portable video game consoles like today. Anyway, the groove this track develops is close to being mad. ‘Du Hälst Deine Hände‘ sounds like it’s being taken from some kind of dancing party, happening in a barn in the Southern States a long time ago. The beat makes you nodding with your head and tapping with your feet, but the story the song tells is the one of a miserable life and not made to get you into a party mood. ‘Fabrikmädchen’ is like an own, odd version of a blues, and closing ‘So Tapfer Wie Ich Kann’ comes in the cloth of a ballad holding a cool guitar solo. ‘Du Bist Meine Freunde’ might seem a bit exaggerated at times, but in fact is more real than you could say about many others. I like it and if you give it a listen I think you’ll dig it, too.
