Single Review

When Daubresse aka “Corpus Christi” (formerly a leading member of FREE LAUNCH) created ‘The Road to Consciousness’, a metal rock opera project in 2009 he met Kristell Lowagie which lead to the creation of LOVELORN. Lowagie who calls herself “Ladyhell” also participates in EVE’S APPLE, before these two bands she used to be a member of SKEPTICAL MINDS and VALKYRE. Their sound is strangely familiar and yet different, I’d describe them as EVANESCENCE, WITHIN TEMPTATION but more hard rock than metal, with no symphonic components and it’s less dramatic thus they’ll remind you of a genre whilst being out of it as well, this divergence is interesting for sure.

‘Save Me’ is probably the most Goth in line with their symphonic metal roots, together with its love-hate position with its portion of blaming and self-victimising. Strong song but not one that especially grabs me, I feel it’s a listener pleaser with not much heart. ‘Sagarmatha’ is where it starts being more interesting as they experiment and play more with the sound. ‘Cold’ is where they’re back to being Goth once again but turned one notch down. ‘Something Wrong’ comes back with more sound exploration, however, the favourite track for me is the last, ‘Little Princess Euphoria’, very catchy; the vocal shows more of a quirkiness and generates more energetic response. It’s a promising single that makes you want to check out their album in future.
