Album Review

Chris Ruiz and Gio van Oli are two simple guys, who just wanna play with you. They were originally in AND ONE, but left the band last year without literally saying any word. They recorded a video with their written goodbye. What is great, now having the new project PAKT, they never mention they were in that band before and don’t try to use the past for achieving some success. And in fact they don’t need it. So, on the one hand it is a bit unfair to start the conversation about PAKT with this one associated band, on the other hand it is unnecessary to ignore this. They did the great job in the previous band, and since the front man of that band is OK, it is possible to move on. Almost a year after they created their duo, they released the debut album ‘Berlin’.

The album deserves a lot of compliments. It is electronic, it is good done, it is danceable, it is flashy, catchy, and there is a wish to listen to it again and again. The arrangements seem to be simple enough, and are absolutely charming. Together with impudent and at the same time attractive “vocals” the great atmosphere is created. Who once was in Berlin listening to PAKT’s work will surely return to its old, tired and tortured streets painted with graffiti all over. You’ll walk in you mind down the Unter den Linden street straight to the Brandenburg Gate, and its lights will decorate the night skies over this beautiful city. This album reflects the adorable soul of the city with its ugly scars of days of rage. With the song ‘Lichterloh’ the fired gasoline path leads you also to Moscow for a second. But before you associate PAKT with a military declaration, listen to the album closer. You’ll surrender to it without any fight. The album is written partly in German and partly in English, and surprisingly consists not only of club blockbusters. Near to ‘Lichterloh’ and ‘Freiheit’ there are wonderful ballads like ‘Schwarz & Weiß’ or ‘Liebespakt’. And so the beautiful full of adventures way of the new band is started. The pact is made.
