Album Review

Formed in 2004, the Belgian Metal band SPOIL ENGINE released its first album `Skinnerbox V07´ three years later. The exciting debut came as a bombshell as well as the sweaty and aggressive live shows. Supported by their previous label Apache Records, the musicians were able to get in touch with Roadrunner Records that finally offered them a deal. Therefore, SPOIL ENGINE is the first Belgian formation in 20 years that had been signed at this famous label. Since 2008, the band has been working on new stuff you can listen to on `Antimatter´ now.

Combining Trash Metal, Crossover, Rock and Metalcore, the all in all 10 tracks cover a wide range that will be able to attract a heterogeneous audience. Additionally, the characteristic vocals of front man Niek Tournois will put the listeners´ teeth on edge. The catchy `In the Line of Fire´ is my favourite song on the album: Hard and fast guitar riffs and changes in tempo meet infernal drums resulting in an absolutely energizing Metal anthem with the potential of raising concert halls´ roofs. The third track `Breathe´ is a catchy-as-hell and rather commercial piece that could be a consumer appeal for non-metal heads too. Aggressive and at the same time melodious songs like `Not Me´ and `The New Disease´ will please everyone who loves that kind of Trash Metal material. Thus, the entire band’s hard work paid off, as you will get a well-polished hellfire album that will also cause a concert inferno at its best.
