pixies bySimonFosterVery joyful news: in autumn, PIXIES will release their new and up to now untitled, eighth studio album. Simultaneously, the European part of their world tour starts, and in October 2019, the pioneering indie rockers come to Germany. For that occasion, Black Francis (vocals, guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Paz Lenchantin (bass) and David Lovering (drums) come up with something new: PIXIES will not play a fixed setlist, but during rehearsals, they will prepare about 90 songs from all phases of their band history. No gig of the tour is alike the other, sequence and selection of the songs is made spontaneously during the concerts.

Front man Black Francis will give short information to the mixer, the light engineer and the band members, which song is played next. Drummer Lovering is already now in joyful anticipation: “This will become a wonderful experiment. The best thing is that we can react directly on the atmosphere in the audience and on stage. That is the limit of what a musician can do: read the room and make the right choice.” If you then are aware of the fact, that PIXIES set no great store by many words between the songs and are more concentrated on their electrifying music, nothing stands in the way of a consistently great concert experience. Especially, the quartet refers to a wide and diverse repertoire: since the first phase in the late eighties, Pixies are one of the most influential bands at all.

There is an incredibly long list of musicians, who are based on them. They paved the way for grunge (NIRVANA and PEARL JAM were fans) as well as for hymnal sounds (this very day, RADIOHEAD refer on it) or diverse Indie Rock between TV ON THE RADIO and WEEZER. The strong dynamic change that came to light in such a profound way not until PIXIES started to make rock music, is their trademark which will characterize the concert experience. After the reunion in 2004, from 2012 Pixies started to produce albums again. In last winter, they worked with producer Tom Dalgety at their latest album. However, as a prognosis for the coming autumn, Pixies have their best moments on stage.
