Since the late 1980s, PHILLIP BOA AND THE VOODOOCLUB have been regarded as one of Germany’s most influential Indie and Avant-Garde bands. At the centre stands Phillip Boa - songwriter, singer, guitarist and producer - whose unmistakable blend of poetry, absurdity and social commentary has long since earned him cult status.
Their music moves effortlessly between Indie Rock, Alternative and Avant-Garde: at times raw and abrasive, at others delicate and melodic. Boa’s lyrics are filled with enigmatic imagery, bizarre dreams and moments of romance, always carried by a poetic depth that gives his songs their unmistakable character.
Celebrated internationally, the band have captivated critics and audiences for decades, sharing stages with artists such as DAVID BOWIE, NICK CAVE, BJÖRK and SONIC YOUTH, and working with legendary producers including Tony Visconti and John Leckie.
To this day, THE VOODOOCLUB continue to reinvent themselves while remaining true to their artistic ethos: uncompromising, distinctive and far removed from the ordinary. Phillip Boa is widely regarded as one of Germany’s most distinctive songwriters - a “quirky pop saint”, as Der Spiegel once described him - and a musician who has fascinated, unsettled and enchanted listeners for decades.
