“The lyrics are like the reading of the testament.” The Swedish masters of atmosphere, OPETH, are returning to Utrecht this August for a major stop on their “The Last Will and Testament Tour”!
Since their very first Dutch show in 1996, OPETH has built a connection with the Netherlands that is hard to beat. Having played over 50 shows in the country so far, they have evolved from a cult Death Metal act into one of the most respected names in heavy music. This performance in the Grote Zaal is the long-awaited follow-up to their sold-out 2022 show in the same venue. After a successful headline set at the Into The Grave festival in 2024, the band is now finally returning for a full club experience.
What makes an OPETH show unique is the natural way they switch between crushing, heavy power and quiet, acoustic moments. It’s a dynamic they have perfected over the last 30 years. On the current American leg of the tour, the band has been in top form, playing a setlist that highlights their latest album, The Last Will and Testament, alongside fan favourites like ‘Master’s Apprentices’, ‘Ghost of Perdition’, and the inevitable ‘Deliverance’.
Of course, no OPETH show is complete without the dry humour that frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt is famous for, providing a light-hearted contrast to the often dark and heavy music.
