Review Flash

The first band of tonight had two songs on the Soundtrack of the Kyle Maclachlan flick ‘The Hidden’ cine-maniacs know I am talking of SHOK PARIS. The band was formed in 1982 and is based in Cleveland, Ohio. Another band to return to the stage after decades of inactivity, SHOK PARIS are back with their third full-length since formation and their first full-length studio record for 31 years. But let’s let the press text have his way: “All over the last years, they performed selected shows and took part in festivals like Bang Your Head, Up The Hammers, Keep It True and Headbangers Open Air. New songs were always on the back of their heads, and finally the time arrived! ‘Full Metal Jacket’ is faithful to their trademark sound, and SHOK PARIS deliver their classic riffs, catchy choruses and hooks.”

To my great surprise Vic Hix sounds like he was in cryostasis the last 31 years, riffs and rhythm section are still tight, melodic and precise like a heavy metal clockwork and the overall compositions are so 80`s it hurts (but in a good way). If you are not familiar with the band’s sound I give you a few hints: TITAN FORCE, LIEGE LORD and LIZZY BORDEN are a similar area sound-wise even if the vocals differ greatly even DIO has similarities ( the phrasing and drama in Vic’s voice is a bit alike).

Conclusion: If you like classic Rock/Metal with dramatic vocals you are in for a treat.
