7th August 2014
Schöngeist
About a week ago in Munich there ended the traditional Free & Easy festival and judging by its name one can guess that it’s really free and rather easy allowing people to have a good time and enjoy good music for 17 days. Yes, that sounds cool but we’d better focus on one day and even on one show to give you a brief idea what it looked like without extra useless information. So on a rainy Thursday all fans of heavy riffs, great sound and gothic atmosphere could see three different bands on one stage. VLAD IN TEARS that opened the whole thing turned out to be an interesting project with high quality metal music which sometimes reminded me of BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE. The musicians had made an excellent show and in general produced a fairly good impression.

26th to 27th July 2014
Amphi Festival Day 2: Torul, Noisuf-X, Ecki Stieg, Unzucht, Maerzfeld, Markus Heitz, Solar Fake, Klangstabil, Der Tod, In The Nursery, The Exploding Boy, Corde Oblique, Mesh, Rotersand, Persephone, Mono Inc., London After Midnight, Janus, Apoptygma Berzerk, Die Krupps, Eisbrecher, Lacrimosa
On the second day, too, the organisers had a card up their sleeve with some splendid bands. While at the main stage and in the Staatenhaus the bands were entertaining the crowd, the program in the theatre was starting much alike the day before with readings of Ecki Stieg, Markus Heitz and the comedy program of DER TOD. And though the great propaganda by excited visitors, on the second day the theatre was so crowded that not all interested people could enter for the show of DER TOD.

Amphi Festival Day 1: The Juggernauts, Phosgore, Markus Heitz, She Past Away, Centhron, Ecki Stieg, Clan of Xymox, The Neon Judgement, Der Tod, Lord Of The Lost, Zeromancer, Burn, Corvus Corax, Aesthetic Perfection, Vic Anselmo, Hocico, Nachtmahr, Janus, Blutengel & The Monument Ensemble, The Klinik, Front 242, Midge Ure, Camouflage, Project Pitchfork
This year was the 10th anniversary of the Amphi Festival. Thus the organisers offered a splendid line-up to celebrate this special date properly and 16,000 people came to this extraordinary and eventful weekend. Originally this festival took place at the Amphitheatre in Gelsenkirchen but soon it was bursting at the seams so that the festival moved to a bigger venue in Cologne with a main stage outside, another one inside (Staatenhaus) and a smaller one (Theatre). Additionally to the concerts, parties, readings, and other offers, they had a special festival opener as well as a finisher: a cruise on the Rhine with concerts and parties. But here and now we will report about the concerts and readings taking place at the Tanzbrunnen.

Blackfield Festival Day 3: Rroye, Formalin, Legend, Tyske Ludder, Heldmaschine, Haujobb, Megaherz, Anne Clark feat. HerrB, Fields of Nephilim, ASP
Time was passing too fast and already the last festival day had come. On this day, too, one band couldn’t make it and thus instead of HERZFEIND, RROYCE was willing and able to fill in. Instead of FORMALIN now RROYCE was opener of the day.

Blackfield Festival Day 2: Terrolokaust, Orange Sector, Slave Republic, Torul, The Other, Diorama, The Beauty Of Gemina, Diary Of Dreams, Front Line Assembly, VNV Nation
The second day started with mixed weather: sun, cloudy, a bit rain, sun, a bit rain and then sun. Anyway the temperature was comfortable, not too hot or cold and thus actually perfect for a festival. We were presented some great acts on this day, too. Many bands animated the audience to move their feet. But of course this year again you could watch with some bewilderment those people who already failed last year to dance to the rhythm. They are still searching desperately for it, or they just hear a completely different rhythm than the rest of us. And I better not start with the mortal sins of the style of dresses.
