NINE INCH NAILS released ‘TRON: Ares’ (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) via Interscope Records on 19th September 2025, marking the band’s first-ever film score under the NINE INCH NAILS name. The album delivers brand-new music from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the third instalment of the iconic TRON franchise.‘TRON: Ares’ is a menacingly vibrant work of sound architecture, built on pulsing synths, distorted textures and haunting melodies. There is no orchestra here - instead, the full force of NINE INCH NAILS is channelled into a cinematic score that collides analogue soul with digital dread.
The lead single ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be’ is accompanied by a striking video directed by Maxime Quolin. As Rolling Stone wrote: “[Director Maxime Quolin] centres the clip around a close-up performance from Trent Reznor, while using an array of different effects to bend space and warp reality… there’s something distinctly tactile about the look of the video, especially as the tension in the visuals builds alongside the music.”
Disney’s ‚TRON: Ares‘ opens in cinemas on 9 October. Reznor and Ross also served as Executive Producers on the film.
The release of ‘TRON: Ares’ follows the sold-out North American leg of NINE INCH NAILS’ “Peel It Back” world tour, which concluded last night with a second performance at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Earlier this summer the band played a series of acclaimed European shows, praised by The Times as “a revelation - a thrilling onslaught that combined angst, sincerity and a nightmarish otherworldliness.”
On 8 November, Reznor and Ross will present Future Ruins, a one-day festival in Los Angeles celebrating visionary composers who are shaping the sound of modern cinema and television.
