Kula Shaker - “The Wormslayer Tour”
Hymn-like Britpop, Psychedelic Rock sound and a generous helping of Indian music - a musical mix with which the British band KULA SHAKER has been shaking up the scene for 30 years now. It all began when singer Crispian Mills took a trip to India, which would have a strong influence on the band’s later musical output, from the band name, inspired by an Indian holy king, to the instrumentation in their seven studio albums to date.
Traditional Indian instruments such as the sitar, tabla and tambura have been a feature of KULA SHAKER’s distinctive sound from the very beginning, which also includes spiritual Sanskrit chants in some places. It’s a concept that has been very well received: their debut album ‘K’ reached number one in the British album charts in 1996. This was followed by various top 10 hits, headline shows at the famous Glastonbury Festival and Oasis support slots at the Britpop band’s Knebworth show, which remains important to this day. ‘Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts’ was released in early 1999, before the KULA SHAKER project was put on hold for the time being. Five years later, however, the British band came back stronger than ever and began releasing successful studio albums at a rapid pace.
From the outset, it was above all their exciting live performances that enabled KULA SHAKER not only to conquer stages across the UK and beyond, but also to stand out from the emphatically cool Britpop scene. It’s an art that the group has mastered to this day - and will demonstrate once again on their upcoming tour early next year. The British band will be bringing along their eighth studio album, ‘Wormslayer’, which will be released on 30 January and organically adds another work to the KULA SHAKER discography. The band will also be presenting their new LP on four dates in February and March 2026 here in Germany - in Cologne, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin.
