M’era Luna Festival Day 2 Main Stage: Mono Inc., End of Green, The Other, Blitzkid, The Vision Bleak, Lacrimas Profundere, Saltatio Mortis, Apoptygma Berzerk, New Model Army, Fields of the Nephilim
When we woke up on the second day and had a look outside our hotel window, we already spotted a grey cloudy sky. And soon after, rain started pouring down. Anyway, already several people showed up in early times at the festival side to watch the early bands hidden under their umbrellas. The main stage on this festival day was dominated by more punk-ish music like presented by THE OTHER or BLITZKID or the Goth rock of LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE or NEW MODEL ARMY. But highlight of the day was surely the headliner performance of FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, now playing in a wonderful coloured dawn you could even spot in Carl McCoy’s sun glasses… [DV]

The first day in the hangar was standing under the banner of good old Gothic Rock, Goth Metal and Wave. M’era Luna Festival Day 2 Hangar Stage: Irfan, Din[A]Tod, Painbastard, Elegant Machinery, Agonoize, Eisbrecher, Combichrist, Hocico, DAF
while on the second festival day the main stage presented rocking tunes, the hangar was totally in the hand of the electro bands… with two exceptions: IRFAN as very first band and EISBRECHER later. All others presented more or less harder electro sounds finding a brilliant highlight in the show of old-school heroes DAF who ended the festival in the hangar while outside FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM were playing.

Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds
On 20th June 2008, the Icelandic band SIGUR RÓS released their fifth album ‘Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust’ meaning ‘With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly’ in English. It was produced by the band and co-produced by production genius Flood and recorded at the Sear Sound Studios in New York, the Assault, Battery- and Abbey Road Studios in London, in a church, the band’s own studio in Reykjavik and in Havana, Cuba. While the last SIGUR RÓS release, the critically acclaimed film chronicle of last year’s Island tour ‘Helma’ showed the and on confided territory, the new album marks the first recording of the band outside of island. It’s also the first album in the band’s career on which the voice of singer Jon Thor Birgisson can be heard in English on one song. The rest is as usual sung in Icelandic. Already since June the band is on tour to present their new album live to the people and on 11th August, they were guests at Cologne’s Palladium to enchant the audience with the sounds of ‘Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust’.

M’era Luna Festival Day 1 Main Stage: Delain, Elis, Rabenschrey, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Mesh, Tanzwut, Unheilig, ASP, VNV Nation, Front 242
Since its beginnings in 2000, the festival has constantly grown and has become a fixed institution in the Wave and Gothic scene. And it is considered the biggest European festival for that scene. The festival lures about 25,000 and counting fans a year to celebrate a melancholic weekend. A fashionable outfit with a touch of middle-age in combination with lacquer and leather is as popular as black colour or if necessary white. The most fans show themselves in the same individual and artificial way like the artists on stage. Bands from all over Europe come to the festival and for most of them it’s not the first time, they’re performing at the M’era Luna.
