Album Review
Following a period of dormancy and a label change DECODED FEEDBACK were back on track and released an acclaimed album with 'Aftermath' in 2010 on their new label Dependent Records. Touring with COVENANT spread the word a b it more and proved a successful effort. Two years later it is time to unleash the next full-length effort 'disKonnekt' which is starting with a track we've heard already on a recently released Dependent compilation: 'Another Loss' serves as a brilliant and heavy opener with the feelings it transports to the listener. You can almost feel the grief-ridden voice break in pain over a painful loss while getting immersed in symphonic melodies. The following 'Night Terror' is of a different calibre and represents an aggressive side of the sound, incorporating hissing and heavily distorted vocals atop a cold industrial dance beat. 'Heart Of Stone' treats us to rather poppy elements and a clearer vocal presentation with moments in darkness. If I'm not mistaken, there's even some acoustic guitar stuff incorporated.
'Blood Red Moon' is a clear example of the excellent ability of DECODED FEEDBACK to create haunting atmospheres the vocals at times almost disappear in to re-surface stronger than ever. On 'Slaughter', the duo's playing a lot with noise elements, samples creating horror within the listener's minds and words filled with contempt only barely recognizable as human. 'It's You' is a dark electro hymn of the better kind after which 'I'm The Night' makes the terror of nightmares audible in a simple song. Where in the past the vocals could hardly be distinguished from other instruments, being merely screams in a sea of instruments, they've clearly taken centre stage no, and especially this song draws much of its attraction from them. 'Soultaker' kind of is the electronic derivative of a post-punk song with a pitch-black atmosphere and violent bursts and as icing on the cake features Claus Larsen on vocals. 'The Devil You Know' reverts back to old glories emphasizing on an old-school down-temp beat amidst dehumanized vocals. Perhaps it's the devil are the very last bit of conscience left in our society. The last chapter pays tribute to 'Blade Runner' and ends the album in style.
'disKonnekt' is great for what it is: It keeps an own identity throughout, it doesn't follow any trends but can't deny it hasn't been influenced by some earlier of those either. Recommended!
