Barely a year has passed since mezzo-soprano singer Dörte Flemming debuted with her project BACIO DI TOSCA and the album ‘Der Tod und das Mädchen’ and now follows the second album already, entitled ‘…und wenn das Herz auch bricht!’
Expectedly also this album is dominated by arrangements you can assign to the (Neo) classic music whereas a lot of electronic means of sound synthesis are used just check out ‘Schweigen’ for with the electronic drums and synth lines. ‘Lehn' Deine Wang’ is based on a text of Heinrich Heine from the book of songs and is an overall weightless piece of music where Dörte’s vocals are only carried by a mix of layered strings. ‘Verzeihen’ walks on calmer paths and leaves it with just the piano and one string instrument altogether providing for a melancholic basic mood. ‘O wärst du mein’ whose lyrics were created by a certain Nikolaus Lenau and later used by Richard Strauss is the epic on the album with a duration of about nine minutes and for about 400 minutes this song entirely consists of ambient-like sound collages permeated with sad voices and violins before the drums eventually kick in. ‘Waldesgespräch’ is arranged to be performed by two vocalists, a male and a female and for the first time rocking guitars have a place in one song on this album.
If this was an entirely instrumental album I probably would have given a higher rating; it’s just, I was never really into that operatic stuff which is why I just can’t get along with her vocals even though beyond all doubts and technically perfect.
