GYPSY & THE CAT is an alternative Melbourne pop duo which was formed in year 2008. In three years of band existence they managed to release quite a successful debut album ‘Gilgamesh’, have extensively toured Australia, Japan, Germany and Hong Kong and performed further concerts in UK and even supported famous Kylie Minogue in her 2011 Australian Tour. Despite that ‘Gilgamesh’ was out in Australia in November 2010 it is finally also released in Germany and Europe now.
‘Gilgamesh’ seems like a pretty airy-mooded album with a sweet melancholy in it. Soft vocals will perfectly compliment your chill-out evening, or a sunny morning, or a rainy day,... you get my point. Some tracks on this CD really stand out. ‘Time to Wander’, sets your mood for the whole album with a dance beat and a catchy chorus to sing along to. Then there is ‘Jona Vark’, the perfect example of a song that gets stuck in your head. You'll most definitely catch yourself singing “Jona Jona Vark... Her name is Jona. Jona Vark...” later. Some tracks like ‘Parallel Universe’ or ‘Gilgamesh’ will somehow make you daydream. Though if you're not a big fan of alternative pop you may for a moment realize you have a feeling of getting stuck in one long track, but don't hasten to discard ‘Gilgamesh’ just yet. You'll actually may get drawn into its charming simplicity. Despite the tracks being a little alike, each one has its own strokes to it. Their similarity in some way actually works well to make ‘Gilgamesh’ one complete thing. And the more you listen to it, the more you'll discover. All in all, if you like the genre you'll surely find the album enjoyable.
