Album Review
After their first two albums ‘Smart Casual’ and ‘Dirt’, the band KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES now released their new album called ‘In Gold Blood’. After listening to the first ones as well, there isn't really doubt about it: the new album is a step forward in many ways. ‘In Gold Blood’ is a concept album which should be listened to in one whole piece to get the effect the band intended. A thing that surprises me the most at that point: to listen to the songs one after another is not as hard as one might think. It all fits together really well and combines everything the band has to offer: nice vocals, good guitars and well-mixed songs.
First of all, let's explain the concept of the album: the band tried to create a new world, showing our modern society, including all the extremes. In there, two main characters, of course a young man and woman (no names), find themselves in this big world. The songs tell about those two people trying to escape from this corrupted world - of course they fail. The album itself is story-driven, yet never becomes too over the top. You can find many influences in songs such as ‘Only the brave die free’ where natural disasters are addressed. Varieties can also be found within the sounds of the songs. The songs don't fall into a simple punk sound but keep up a high standard of guitars, bass and drums combining everything to a rich and full sound.
All in all, KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES have released a quite impressive album. Bands such as LOST PROPHETS and other should definitely looked out, the KIDS are coming! ‘In Gold Blood’ is surely a pleasure for fans but will also attract new ones as well. The band now showed everyone what they are up to and I'm sure that the future has never been brighter.
