Album Review

THY ART IS MURDER are an Aussie band dealing Deathcore with a message, they target the murderousness of religious zealots, tackle environment and child abuse and think they’re the only bands to do so. Okay...

As you’d expect – blast beats, fretwork, good stuff going on with bass etc... but really there’s not much to distinguish it from the sludge within extreme metal, it’s not outstanding in other words. Let’s face it who would be surprised at the pulverising heaviness? No one. On one hand you can have technical prowess but it needs to go hand in hand with inspiration and of the latter there’s just not enough to be found. So in a strange way all that energy feels tired.

Again, don’t bring a record that is mediocre with bravado that you’re ready to change genre’s paradigms. A bit of modesty is recommended, be it in their promo materials or interviews. On the other hand delusions of grandeur amongst musicians and arty types in general aren’t anything new and are rather common so even in that they’re not sticking out of the crowd either.
