Album Review

Young German rock band REISEGRUPPE FISCHER blends in its style the tunefulness of indie with the lightness and accessibility of pop music, getting as a result very vivid, energetic songs. Actually, the eponymous debut work of the band consists of such tracks and also the collaboration with producer Oliver Zülch allowed the musicians to make a good album indeed. But tastes differ and in this case I have to say that on the CD, I didn’t find anything interesting for myself. Yes, the material is definitely qualitative with the great sound and wonderful vocals and there’s nothing to cavil at. On the other hand I can’t compliment the music as well because it still lacks for some depth and originality, which could mark REISEGRUPPE FISCHER out of the other bands of the kind. Of course the album is not bad and nevertheless it’s quite pleasant to listen to despite all the shortcomings mentioned before.

The first three tracks on the CD are, unfortunately, rather weak and pale and the only thing that can impress there is the vocals: as I already said the singer does a good job and almost makes the words pierce into your head which is obvious after so many repetitions. However it’s better to listen to the album from the very beginning in order to let the other compositions surprise you. On ‘Zirkus Illuvision’, the melody starts taking shape and it’s getting more and more interesting from one song to another, besides the music becomes really rich and the vocals is also getting more emotional so the words begin to easily stick in your memory. Each next song is better than its predecessor and you are eager to find out what the musicians have prepared for you. Acoustic beginning of ‘Mädchen wie du’ pleases with the first second and makes a listener feel light melancholy till the end of the composition. Another nice track on the CD is ‘Zeit’ but the rest of the material is also of high quality: the songs are diverse and intricate as far as it’s possible for such music. Extremely melodic final piece ‘Wie ein Engel’ is one more pearl on the album and the best one to finish it.

In general the CD is full of commercial compositions and the band will find its own fans among lovers of the style. So the debut album turned out to be good enough but if REISEGRUPPE FISCHER finds some special feature and adds more individuality to the music it will definitely score success.
