Album Review
VEMOD from Norway offer a four-song full-length record, providing dark yet atmospheric Black Metal reminiscent of early ULVER. However, although the comparison might seem obvious, the three-piece also manages to create a unique atmosphere, relying on demanding song structures, a fittingly raw production as well as melodic fragments. With songs hardly shorter than ten minutes, the band nevertheless manages to create a tension and not appear as too monotonous or repetitive. Rather, the songs challenge the listener’s attention, while also rewarding the patience with several distinct layers and experiences. A highly interesting album and band to keep track of.
