Iceland Airwaves has announced the first 17 artists slated to perform at Iceland Airwaves, taking place in Reykjavík November 5-9. Tickets are on sale now. The five day festival will close with the legendary Flaming Lips (US), performing on Sunday November 9. Other artists announced are East India Youth (UK), Samaris, Jungle (UK), Mammút, La Femme (FR), Grísalappalísa, Vök, Jaakko Eino Kalevi (FI), Tiny Ruins (NZ), Muck, Snorri Helgason, Tonik, John Wizards (ZA), Blaenavon (UK), Just Another Snake Cult and Highlands. A limited amount of tickets for the closing show with Flaming Lips will go on sale on Tuesday February 4 at noon GMT. However, 2200 tickets will be available for Iceland Airwaves ticket holders. Tickets will be handed out on Friday November 7 at noon at Harpa on a first-come-first-served basis. One wristband = One final show ticket. Since the first edition was held in 1999 in an airplane hangar, Iceland Airwaves has become one of the premier annual showcases for new music – Icelandic and otherwise – in the world. It's made a heap of friends and won many fans along the way, and been lavished with praise pretty much everywhere they write about music.
