u96 atlantisThe godfathers of Techno are back! For their 30th anniversary, U96 release a cover version of the DONOVAN classic “Atlantis"” in their very own version together with Claude-Oliver Rudolph

The first Techno album ever was released almost 30 years ago: ‘Das Boot’ by U96. In the time before that, techno DJs and producer teams primarily limited themselves to the publication of current tracks and remixes on the 12” vinyl format. As the name suggests, the cornerstone for this album was the first noteworthy chart success of Techno culture: ‘Das Boot’ by U96 not only made the genre of Techno socially acceptable beyond the scene, but also reached top positions in the charts worldwide. In Germany alone, the Maxi stayed in first place for months and sold more than 1,000,000 copies. U96 was the commercial forerunner of the Techno movement. At that time it was still an underground, young scene, which advanced to an international movement with “Mayday” and then the “Loveparade” in the 90s.

This was followed by various U96 hits ‘Heaven’, ‘Club Bizarre’, ‘Love Religion’ and ‘Love sees No Colour’, which still enjoy cult status today. On Spotify alone, U96 has nearly half a million monthly listeners. At the end of the 90s, the four-man producer team (MATIZ) went their separate ways. While Alex Christensen advances his career as a successful classic crossover producer, Hayo Lewerenz and Ingo Hauss continue to focus on their greatest love: electronic music and the further development of the U96 story. ‘Atlantis’ is the second track from the forthcoming album ‘20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer’, out September 9th via Motor Entertainment.

But this is just the beginning: Together with the cult actor Claude-Oliver Rudolph (James Bond and others), U96 developed a visual and sound-powerful show for the Hamburg Planetarium on the occasion of the 30th anniversary, which has been the most successful, regular performance (4 x per week) in the Hamburg Planetarium since March is running and will be offered this year at various FullDome trade fairs for international evaluation. The inspiration for the planetarium show was provided by Jules Verne’s classic ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’. Some key titles of the planetarium show such as ‘New Life’, ‘Atlantis’, ‘Ich, Nemo’ now also form the basis for the new U96 album ‘20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer’, which interprets the techno genre broadly and spans from modern Techno Pop songs to large soundtrack worlds.

Nobody will be disappointed here. While a best of hits collection is usually released for the anniversary, U96 come up with an impressive new album that not only presents an exciting new sound experience, but also a FullDome Planetarium show and a completely new concert experience. Inspired by the experiences with the FullDome experts/programmers in Hamburg, the concert experience from October will bring a mixture of virtual underwater worlds passing by on LED, actors (including Claude-Oliver Rudolph) and live music to the concert halls. Maybe the first live crossover - we call it: ‘20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer - Das Fantasy Musical’ - it will definitely be a new, breath-taking experience.
