22nd Wave Gotik Treffen 2013

2013 brings along many great festivals, of course including the very special WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN. For 22 years, the festival established itself as the biggest festival of its kind, growing and growing from year to year. By now, about 20,000 people gather in Leipzig each year, plunging the city in dark colors. From May 17th to 20th Gothics from all over the world are expected to come together again in Leipzig to celebrate the Wave-Gotik-Treffen as THE international gathering of the dark family. More than 200 artists are confirmed every year, offering a great variety of different music styles and performances.

“The devil is in the detail,” as the old saying goes. Translated to Sodom vocalist/bassist Tom Angelripper’s sharp-tongued and highly critical powers of observation, you might also say: the worst perversions often hide behind seemingly harmless terms. What are we referring to? For example to ‘Katjuscha’, one of twelve hard-as-nails songs which Sodom present on their latest studio album, Epitome Of Torture. After all, Sodom’s ‘Katjuscha’ has little to do with the same-named folk song by Mikhail Isakovsky, but is about the Russian rocket launcher which has been responsible for death and destruction thousandfold. “The Katjuscha has been produced since World War II and is still used today,” the Sodom frontman explains. “It’s been responsible for the death of more people than Stalin’s organ. To name such a deadly weapon after a girl is as grotesque as giving the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima the code name ‘Little Boy’.” It’s obvious that Sodom 2013 haven’t changed their scornful view of the world, presenting an album in Epitome Of Torture that is as uncompromising as ever in musical as well as lyrical terms. “Unfortunately there’s still plenty of inspiration for angry lyrics around,” says Angelripper.

In 2012 Chaos All Stars released the CD “I Need It All”, a CD that got lots of praise from the critics. Some even claimed it to be one of the best releases in the genre of 2012. Still, some also noticed that the CD was somewhat a bit short to be an album of modern days. Chaos All Stars now, one year on the day since “I Need It All” was released, give you the addition: “I Need It All – Addendum”. It is not to be considered a new album or a sequel, rather another chapter. “I Need It All – Addendum” is released digitally only for the masses. It will also printed in a physical limited edition and sold only at live-concerts.
