Simple Minds - The Greatest Hits Tour 2014
Despite their long and changeable band history, SIMPLE MINDS are still ‘Alive and kicking’. Starting in 1977 as Punk Band JOHNNY AND THE SELF ABUSERS by Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, they disbanded already at the end of the year just to form SIMPLE MINDS a couple of weeks later. The band name was inspired by the song ‘Jean Genie’ from DAVID BOWIE. With a musical career of more than 30 years the Scottish band released 15 studio albums, several live albums and live videos, a cover album, best of albums, as well as numerous singles.
Their music spans a great spectrum of musical genres and influences during the years, from Punk, to Minimalism, Experimental, Industrial Electronic, Trance and Rock music. With the release of their album ‘New gold dream (81- 82- 83 84)’ in 1982 and the release of three singles of it they attracted the attention of a greater audience, followed by their next album ‘Sparkle in the rain’ in 1984, but with the song ‘Don’t you (forget about me)’ which was a film song for the teenage film ‘The Breakfast Club’ in 1985 they had their first N° 1 hit in the USA and this song is still played on the commercial radio in Europe nowadays. SIMPLE MINDS used in 1988 their popularity for their engagement against the apartheid system side by side with other great bands and musicians.
After being quite a commercial band they returned to their Electronic Pop roots in 1998. Having experienced several changes in band members, as well as labels, during their more than three decades history, their live performances are outstanding and they are still enjoying it to tour worldwide. As tickets for their upcoming tour in 2014 are selling fast there is a chance to see them now on this additional date in Münster.
