IRON MAIDEN - “Live after Death” DVD

For IRON MAIDEN the year began with a stormy start due to the release of their long awaited DVD ‘Live after Death’ on 1st February, which cracked straight into the music charts worldwide. There were #1 positions in Australia (Gold Status on the first day), Great Britain, France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, New Zealand, Denmark and Finland. In Germany, the DVD climbed up to the Top 10 of the album charts and even to #1 of the Music DVD Charts. “Life after Death” also entered the Music Charts in Portugal, Norway and Ireland at position 2 of the Music DVD Charts. Top 3 entries in the US and Canada are expected.

It contains the legendary recording of IRON MAIDENS 4-day concert at the Lon Beach Area in California from the year 1985. The corresponding live album is considered one of the most sold live metal albums of all times which set new standards in terms of live recording at that time. You can find a teaser to the DVD here:

There’s also a website, especially created for this release: http://www.liveafterdeath.de/

Disc one contains the recording of this full 90 minute concert.  Originally filmed on 35mm, the footage comes alive on DVD resulting in a visually stunning film that far outstrips the usual live video of the ‘80’s.  The disc carries two sound options - the original concert audio specially mixed into 5.1 Surround Sound by Kevin Shirley, Maiden’s producer since 1999, plus the original stereo sound track by Martin Birch, the band’s producer from 1981 to 1993.   Originally released on video in 1985, this has been largely unavailable for the past 20 years.

Disc two has Part 2 of the ‘History of Iron Maiden’, continuing on the Maiden story from “The Early Days” DVD, along with rare and unseen bonus footage in the form of BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN, ROCK IN RIO ’85, and ‘ELLO TEXAS, all in all giving a total running time of well over three hours. Plus of course the photo galleries, relevant promo videos, artwork galleries, tour dates, tour programme and other features which all combine to make Maiden DVDs a very special and utterly comprehensive treat for their fans. http://www.ironmaiden.com/

The tour on which IRON MAIDEN will likely play in front of 500.000 fans in the next six months will not only strengthen their reputation as one of the biggest live acts on this planet, but also as the band with the most ticket sales at all.

The Maiden Mania right now captivates Countries all around the world, because since they are available since the past year, the tickets for the World Tour 2008 are selling like hell. The Palmera Stadium in Sao Paolo with 42.000 seats was sold out after a week. The show in Mexico City was moved from the Sports Arena to the Foro Sol Stadion, because the tickets for the Sports Arena were already sold out after 4 days. Meanwhile, this venue is also nearly sold-out. For their first visit in Columbia, where the ticket sales on the first day were the highest for music events ever, the planned 30.000 seats at the Simon Bolivar Stadium in Bogota were sold-out in ten days and were raised to 50.000. IN Sydney and Melbourne, each of the 14.000 tickets were sold-out after 30 minutes, so an additional show for both cities had to be fixed.25.000 fans in Argentina as well as in Chile and Costa Rica bought all available tickets and the organizer is asking at the venues if some more fans could see the show.

It’s the same thing in North America, where the shows in the big arenas in L.A., New York and Toronto were already sold-out weeks beforehand. Last November 125.000 tickets were sold in just 2 hours for three stadium concerts in Sweden and Finland. All in all, this promises to be an important tour and an important year for IRON MAIDEN

The band is able to tour the south hemisphere that much, because they can take their own airplane around the world with them with Astraeus Airline Captain Bruce Dickinson at the wheel – together with their complete 50 man crew, 12 tons of equipment and the stage set. The Age in Australia reports: “Some bands reach such an impressive success, so they can travel in their own jet, but only few bands fly those damn things themselves. The British Heavy Metal kings IRON MAIDEN brought the Do-it-yourself ethos to a new level – regardless of the budget, which is bigger that that of the most Heavy Metal bands – when singer Bruce Dickinson flew his band into the country in an especially converted Boeing 757.”

The history of the band comes alive with the “Somewhere Back in Time Tour 2008” because the focus mainly lies on the 80s, both in the song selection and the stage set, which is based on the legendary Egyptian production of the 1984-85 Powerslave Tour. This is likely to become the most expensive and most spectacular show, the band presented so far and contains some of the key elements of their Somewhere in Time Tour in 1986/87 like the Cyborg Eddie. http://www.ironmaiden.com/
