Never let it be said that nothing good comes of a study. Caroline Polacheck and Aaron Pfenning would likely agree. The guitarist and the singer of CHAIRLIFT met at the University of Colorado and quickly discovered common musical interests. Almost one year after that event (And first, celebrated performances) they found in Patrick Wimberly the person who with his skills on Bass, Drums, and Keys completed the line-up eventually. That he was a pronounced fan of the two since the beginning might have helped as well. Together they developed the sonic aesthetics of CHAIRLIFT that can aptly be described with ‘cinematic’. Careful atmospheres, experimental minimalism, a voice that varies between the heavenly, the earthly, and the eternal sounds and lots of Pop surely are the cornerstones but CHAIRLIFT are not afraid of crossing borders.Is that now avant-garde? Dreamy Electro Folk? Neo Pop? Or all and nothing in the end? The own opinion is what counts and that’s why we recommend the video to ‘Evident Utensil’, the first single off the upcoming album ‘Does You Inspire You’ (Release 22nd May 2009) and so you can get an idea of the legendary live qualities of the trio, they’re visiting Germany for two dates parallel to the release and here are the dates:
