Colos-Saal, Aschaffenburg, Germany,
13th April 2009
QNTAL

When QNTAL was formed in 1991, firstly Michael Popp and Ernst Horn considered it as a secondary project beside their miscellaneous activities. Up to now, the mediaeval lyrics, the modern electronic sounds and the classical voice of lead singer Syrah have represented the band’s style that is committed to the Middle Age and its languages, for example Latin and Middle High German.

Accompanied by ethereal soundscapes and using traditional instruments such as shalm and lute as well as contemporary synthesizers, QNTAL are able to take their listeners to former centuries.
Furthermore, the band follows not only the mediaeval music’s specifications, but the musicians also refer with their lyrics to the feeling and thinking of people who had lived in those times.

The debut album `QNTAL I´ (1992) turned out as a great success. QNTAL gained a fascinated audience and landed a sensational club hit by releasing the single `Ad mortem festinamus´. In 2003 the album `QNTAL III´, which was published after Ernst Horn had left the formation und Philipp Groth had become a band member, even went to number two in the German Alternative charts. In 2008, QNTAL released `Purpurea´, a retrospective that offers a cross section of the project’s six long-players. On 13th April 2009, Syrah, Michael Popp and Philipp Groth are going to enchant the Colos-Saal´s audience in Aschaffenburg.
