Review Flash

ASHBÜRN is a young band from Vitória, Espírito Santo in Brazil. Formed in 2013 and heavily influenced by bands like ANGRA, GAMMA RAY, STRATOVARIUS, SHAMAN and SONATA ARCTICA. The sound varies between classic metal similar to some 80s US Metal paired with bits and pieces of the European Power Metal sound. The way in which the band blends these different styles is pretty consistent and the outcome is heavily melodic. Sure, the fact that Heron Ribeiro’s voice is awesome further helps the compositions to outshine a big part of the competition but it is not Heron’s success alone. Rodrigues and Monteiro on six-string duty manage to build a brilliant narrative and the work of pace-keepers Braz (bass) and Matheus Rodrigues on drums is what closes the circle. All in all, this is one of the best Brazilian releases I yet had the opportunity to review. My favourites are: ‘No more Memories’ and ‘Asylum’.

Conclusion: Brazil still has a very unique energy when it comes to Heavy Metal, check it out!
