Review Flash

VOCIFER from Brazil are one the big discoveries of the last few month, VOCIFER is a band distinguishing themselves through their obvious passion and musicality paired with a natural grasp of great melodies. VOCIFER were assembled in 2014, the band is based in Palmas, Tocantins (Brazil) and this is their very debut as a kick-ass traditional Heavy Metal band. The overarching concept of ‘Boiuna’ is to tell mythic tales and legends of Amazonian folklore (Boiuna is a mythic creature, the Lady-of-the-waters or Cobra Grande). VOCIFER do not incorporate folkloristic elements into their sound but that does not detract from them telling stories of the Amazonas to show their listeners their rich history and the beauty of those epic tales. VOCIFER sometimes remind me of a purged and straighter forward version of bands like IRON MAIDEN or ICED EARTH (without the staccato riffgasms). João Noleto on vocals is extremely talented and know exactly how to weave his vocals into the vivid melodies to reach the absolute maximum effect. Scheid and Oliveira on guitars are blessed with great skill when it comes to the delivery of upper-class riffs. Lago and Carvalho on bass and drums are firm as a rock and prove time and time again that the whole melodic construct can safely lean on them. Faves are: ‘Hummingbird’, ‘Release the Night’ and ‘Lady Moon’ - all these are catchy as fuck and highly melodic.

Conclusion: If you love your Metal more melodic than rough and brutal you should check this band, they rule!
