Review Flash

LYDMOR (real name Jenny Rossander) is Danish and does a bit of everything really, with a CV that instantly makes you think simply of your own limitations. ‘Capacity’ is her new album, and unlike recent recordings which involved shuffling about in Shanghai, this is a more internalised and esoteric affair, inevitable really considering recent global happenings. It’s certainly a strange world she inhabits, one with limitless possibilities and directions and dimensions. ‘Capacity’ is eccentric without being contrived, quirky without being cute, drifting from piano pastels and intrigue on ‘Labyrinth-Faced Man’ to bounding about in an R&B oil-painting in ‘Nevada’, or on the spoken-word oddness of ‘Amanda’s Dream’. The production is first-class too.

Conclusion: As an exercise in escapism, this dream-like journey is anything but linear, and its tangents and dead-ends are as irresistible as its more conventional moments. Recommended.
