Review Flash

Two years ago I reviewed ‘Live In Europe’ from the very same band that is engaging me right now with their new output ‘Fire In The Sky’. ABSOLVA came into existence in 2012, which is my kind of humour as everything was bound to end that year. This is the bands sixth full-length record and I have nothing bad to say about it. The bass, played by Karl Schramm, is the only thing that is only heard when REALLY turning up the volume and listen hard but aside from that the sound is as tight as my budget. These gentlemen really know how to write a song that are reminiscent of a dozen of bands and sounds you already got embedded in your DNA but without just ripping some blokes straight off. ABSOLVA got their very own sound but the influences are quite clear, the overall IRON MAIDEN vibe and especially the BLAZE BAYLEY era (‘Stand Your Ground’) is felt and heard in almost every second of this but this is not all that is to be found in these riff laden metal revelations. Chris’ voice sometimes reminds of Ronnie James Dio’s timbre, the next moment you think you listen to some never released track of a young Glenn Hughes. Tracks like ‘What Does God Know?’ reveal a truth I hoped to see unveiled in my lifetime: not every great song was already written, but after this record there are a few more upon us that do not need to be invented and incepted any more.

Conclusion: A treasure chest full of kick-ass tunes that leave you wondering how these guys are going to top it off with the next release...
