UNDER THE PLEDGE OF SECRECY started out as a Deathcore / Grindcore band in 2005, I am glad they changed to technical Death Metal because that is something I am capable of handling (Grindcore is more or less just unbearable noise). Thorsten the bass / guitar-man contacted me and I decided to give this a go, a decision I am not yet regretting. ‘Empire Of Bastards’ is the second full-length output of UNDER THE PLEDGE OF SECRECY and it rips you a new one! The balance between technicality, the varying of paces (mostly mid to up-tempo), progressive transitions and melody is a thing that makes this really pleasant surprise. The vocals are as gnarly and brutal as it gets and every time the band decides to put the foot on the gas you instantly realize how frigging talented these dudes are. I don’t want to bash any bands here but pure brutality is something that very many bands are able to create (with varying outcomes when it comes to quality, sure) but to pair a hate that is so searing hot it melts the headphones right into your brains and do this while entertaining you with great musicianship... that is something I really respect like hell.
