Rock im Revier Day 1: Prime Circle, Powerwolf, Garbage, Mando Diao
For the second time, rock and metal fans head to Rock im Revier festival. Last year, more than sixty bands played on three stages in and around the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, and about 45,000 people were having a blast. This year, Rock im Revier feels less like a festival and more like a concert. The line-up has shrunk considerably, counting less than twenty bands. On the first day, not too many people have come. We are at one of my least favourite venues, the Westfallenhalle in Dortmund, now.

Wave Gotik Treffen 2016 (Day 1): Victorian Picnic, Golden Apes, The Angina Pectoris, Triarii, Abney Park, Faun, Nouvelle Vague, Project Pitchfork, The Deadfly Ensemble, Peter Murphy
Most events (concerts, etc.) start later in the afternoon. Later than in the years before. Most visitors need some time to sleep of the party nights, freshen up or use the time to visit museums. The sunny weather would have been perfect for an open air concert and a lot of people miss the Parkbühne, the stage at the Clara Zetkin Park, which -apart from the “Victorian Picnic”- has no longer been part of the WGT since 2014.

Wave Gotik Treffen 2016: Opening Party at Moritzbastei with Framheim, Imaginary War!, Tri-State and big Opening Event at Belantis
This year’s special treat for the 25th annual Whitsun celebration (WGT) was a free entry to the amusement park BELANTIS, where also a great opening party was taking place. And what a treat it was! There were free shuttle busses from both Leipzig’s main train station and the Agra to BELANTIS. Good for all, who arrived already wearing their admission wristlets, the queue for those without was endless. All others can just walk in feeling all V.I.P.

Wave Gotik Treffen 2016 - General issues & visitor gallery
5 Days of Love, Peace and Happiness! All around me are familiar faces, familiar places... (in reference to ‘Mad World’ by Gary Jules)
The black hippies are back for the 25th edition of the WGT, the biggest festival of its kind, which attracted over 20.000 visitors from all around the world. The WGT, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, has the emphasis on “Treffen” (meeting). It´s all about celebrating the gothic culture and meeting friendly open-minded people from all around the globe. And Leipzig, with its kind people, old buildings and interesting sights is the perfect spot.

Combichrist
In 2003, Andy LaPlegua founded COMBICHRIST. His electronica past (ICON OF COIL) mixed with U.S. Hardcore “merged them into a singular, mechanical music monster” (in his own words). From ‘The Joy of Gunz’, LaPlegua’s first release as COMBICHRIST in 2003, to his brand new album ‘This Is Where Death Begins’ (3rd June 2016), this is the eight studio album for the Norwegian who are touring around the globe. COMBICHRIST played for second time in Buenos Aires, their first visit was 8 years ago. http://www.combichrist.com / https://www.facebook.com/combichrist
