Amphi Festival 2005 – Day 2: Staubkind, Psyche, Lacrimas Profundere, Welle:Erdball, Suicide Commando, Blutengel, Die Krupps, Camouflage, In Extremo
After only some hours of sleep and with a terrible headache I made my way back from Muenster to Gelsenkirchen for the second day of the new Amphi Festival which I really enjoyed so far. I arrived quite early in Gelsenkirchen fearing there would be again a long queue. But today everything worked very smooth and I found myself in the Amphi Theater after only some minutes of waiting time. The weather wasn´t as good as the day before but luckily the weather god was quite nice to us and we only had very little slight rain during the whole day and night. The area began to fill up quite fast that day and at the end there should have been about 4500 people attending the festival on Saturday. Looking at all the shirts people wore most of them came probably for the headliner “In Extremo”. But all the other bands had their fans too and the nicely mixed line up promised another great festival day.

June 18th 2005
Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Audioslave, Machine Head, Velvet Revolver, After Forever, Slayer, Motörhead, Papa Roach, Alter Bridge
Finally it was time, the first huge metal festival of this summer in the Netherlands. Some 50.000 metal fans gathered on the 18th of June in the Goffertpark (a large park) in Nijmegen. One of the biggest stages in Europe had been set up which was divided in two forming the two main stages. Besides this huge stage there was a smaller stage called the MTV stage and there was a tent stage as well. Fields of Rock was held for the second time. Two years ago was the first edition, so why no festival last year? No big names available. Fields of Rock is guaranteed to deliver a day with only the biggest names in metal. Let’s hope there will be a festival again next year as this year was a huge success.

1st July 2005
Day 1: This Morn´ Omnia, Unheilig, Zeraphine, Goethes Erben, Project Pitchfork, Client
After raining the whole day, the rain stopped just in time for the start of the festival and a blue sky appeared over the “Amphi Theater” in Gelsenkirchen. As I arrived at the location there were a lot of people waiting outside to change their tickets into the festival bands and to go into the venue. As always when you do something new, there were some minor difficulties with the first Orkus Open Air in Gelsenkirchen too. So the people had to wait really long until they could go in. Due to these problems the promoters started with the second band “Unheilig” one hour later then planned so that most of the people had a chance to see them.

Client
Client A and Client B, the two ladies behind the project Client, seem to be among the most hard-working live acts if you look at their tour schedule. Straight after their tour with Erasure they hit the road again to do a headliner tour through Europe´s clubs. Of course including some places in Germany. And when Client come to your town you are going to see them, even if it´s just a mere 4 weeks ago you checked them out live. ;-)

June 4th 2005
Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Metal Church, Life of Agony, Soilwork, Messugah, Accept, Epica, Scarve, Entombed, Strapping Young Lad
Although Waldrock was not sold-out, it was considerably busy on the festival ground. There even arose traffic-jams in front of the parking place in the little town of Burgum. Because of the mud it even went slower then I hoped. As a result, I missed the kick off of the festival, the ‘Frisian’ band: Icepick. The tone was set when the Christian demonstrators started to distribute cards and ‘provoking’ young people who came from the campsite and waited for the entrance, had some nice discussions.
