Album Review

“It’s been too long since the last album.” These words of EVANESCENCE’s vocalist Amy Lee became a motto of the coming album. To be more exactly it has been about five years since the previous album by EVANESCENCE was released. In spite of the great popularity, the band doesn’t churn out tons of material and doesn’t release new album every year. The self-called album will be the third one in discography of the band, which exists for 15 years. Their official debut album ‘Fallen’ (2003) became a great sensation in musical world and made Amy Lee’s vocals one of the best known. Shortly before the release of the second album the co-founder and the ideologist of the band Ben Moody left EVANESCENCE. But it didn’t prevent the band from releasing their second work ‘The Open Door’, which became platinum in just a month. The third album is already done; the opening single is already released. Fans and music lovers are looking forward to it.

Generally the album is hard, strong and powerful. "We've been finding ourselves, reinventing our sound, experimenting with things we've never done before and at the same time embracing the things we love most about Evanescence," so Amy Lee. The album is opened by a kicking song ‘What You Want’. What else except for beautiful woman, shouting “Do what you want if you have a dream for better”, would motivate you for big deals? Together with ‘Made of Stone’, ‘The Change’ and ‘Sick’, this song represents unique and brand style of EVANESCENCE. On the other hand there are ballads like ‘Swimming Home’ and ‘Lost in Paradise’ which will successfully continue the line of ‘Immortal’.

First musicians got in studio back in 2009 with Steve Lillwhite, famous for producing U2, Peter Gabriel and Siouxsie and the Banshees. But it didn’t work and they decided to start all over again with Nick Raskulinecz, who is tending to harder music, as Foo Fighters, Deftones and Alice Cooper. It seems quite difficult to get over your own success and keep being one of the best. But EVANESCENCE manages it very good and they’re not going to disappoint neither their fans nor musical critics. It’s been too long since the last album, but it’s always worthy to wait for.
