Album Review
‘Carver City’ who's ever heard of such an odd place doesn't ring a bell to me... none what so ever. Maybe that's because it’s not a real city I don't believe it is anyway hmm then what could it possibly be? Perhaps the name of something that must be it! ‘Carver City’ is indeed the fourth studio album and title to alternative rock act CKY! According to Miller (Vocalist / Guitarist) goes off saying ‘Carver City’ carries with it a "dark summer vacation vibe" nostalgic of the band members' childhood trips to the East Coast beaches. According to Chad Ginsburg, on a recent episode of Radio Bam, 'Carver City' is a town in New Jersey "in CKY's Minds". "The fabled town of Carver City has a history of bad luck and misfortune, all the while giving the impression that it’s a pleasant family getaway. Much like CKY's town of Hellview, Carver City's events are depicted in the songs, with story lines coming from real life events." Deron added that on ASKCKY himself, Chad and Matt all contributed playing bass on the album.
That being said, CKY have come a long ways since their last release ‘An Answer Can Be Found’ (2005) five long years for a whole new album to break through and this time it has made a breakthrough in CKY's musical career completely throwing these guys over the top. Dishing out 11-tracks and the bonus material likely to arrive on the deluxe and special versions, the 11 main tunes really grab your attention right off the bat. When the opener ‘Hellions on Parade’ begins to roll, it rolls right off allowing the music to force itself into one mega mixture of music, The instruments are fast and edgy sending out that vibration of rock and roll that keeps the music going. Whereas ‘Plagued by Images’ maintains that high strung out rock and roll beatings but mellows it down a notch letting the drumming and guitars do most of the work for the meantime while the vocals comes in every so often. One other track that wraps it altogether has to be ‘The Era of an End’ which concludes the album but it ends it in a fashion that is truly rock and roll madness. Sending out that classic raw but heavy CKY energy that CKY is known to establish musically; so without a doubt CKY fans will not want to miss out on this album for it will not be the band's last this is just the beginning and continuation of something amazing.
