Album Review
ALEXISONFIRE’s ‘Old Crows / Young Cardinals’ is the next instalment from this hardcore indie rock’n’rollers. The title referred by a shortened version entitled ‘Young Cardinals’ until it was changed to what it has become today. Coming out with 11-tracks for "Old Crows / Young Cardinals" wasn't a difficult task at hand because the band themselves had indicated that they had came up with too many "new" songs and managed to narrow it down to just these eleven.
In the ending process leaving us with numerous tunes to bang our heads too like ‘Young Cardinals’, ‘No Rest’ and ‘Emerald Street’; all of which have that well catchy upbeat pattern of bass quakes that just shake this entire selection down to the bone. Having ‘Young Cardinals’ sounding vibrate with an echoing rhythm to it as the guitars easily craft out amazing riffs with untangling solos to keep it balanced. While the drumming on the other hand extends its pounding methods at a much faster rate bringing out this galloping sensation especially when ‘No Rest’ begins the galloping sense beats off and doesn't stop. ‘Emerald Street’ is becoming the emotional track of the album embracing such feeling it’s soothing.
‘Old Crows / Young Cardinals’ is none the less an accomplishment for the band and what they had wanted when creating an album so impacted with emotion it offers a bit of everything in between.
