Album Review
HELLYEAH is an American heavy metal band, at the moment it is consisting of Chad Gray (MUDVAYNE), Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE), Vinnie Paul (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) and Kyle Sanders (BLOODSIMPLE). The band was formed in the year 2005; 18 month after Vinnie Pauls brother “Dimebag” Darrell was shot on stage performing with DAMAGEPLAN. Vinnie Paul wasn`t sure if he will return to the music business after the murderer of his beloved brother Dime, but Chad and Tom were very persistent and in the end their efforts resulted in HELLYEAH. The band released their fourth album with ‘Blood for Blood’.
Describing the music is relatively hard because of the very diverse influences one will notice listening to the material. Naturally some of the songs have a modern metal edge because of MUDVAYNE vocalist Chad Gray (who does a good job considering that I don`t like MUDVAYNE), Vinnie Paul adds the bits of groove metal (with a thrash edge) and yes he is a great drummer. The guitars sometimes even remind me of mid 90`s grunge which is quite nice. All in all I have to admit that I had quite a nice time listening to this record despite the influences from bands I don`t like or know. If you are into modern metal or the so called nu metal this might raise your attention.
