Single Review

The Swedish MONUMENT was formed in the summer of 2010 and in the beginning band’s sole scope was to experiment with music forms and ideas. Somehow they decided that the Post Punk of the early 80’s and especially the one influenced by the British scene was their field of expertise. And they delved into the major bands of that era like JOY DIVISION, BAUHAUS, SKELETAL FAMILY, COCTEAU TWINS, and SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES among many others. The results in the beginning of 2012 are most striking; the band does not just offer a retro-trip to the past but actually accomplishes something astonishing. It seems that the band took a PhD in early 80’s scene and this Single looks and sounds like a forgotten masterpiece from that era. Especially in its vinyl edition that feeling will be emphatically stronger. And though ‘Jennifer’ is the “hit” of the release judging at least by its faster tempo the song that stays like a punch in the guts is ‘Teeth And Tails’ with its slower pace and “dirtiness” of its sound. In less than a month the EP will be released and these three songs make me think that it will be something monumental for sure.
