Album Review

THE LIDOCAINE is a three-piece progressive rock band from Finland, who has released its debut record ‘Voices and Noises of Killing Koling’ firstly in their home country but also present it now on an international level. The opener, ‘My Living is done’, starts with a slow, bass- and guitar-driven intro, which sounds very atmospheric and also a bit progressive. Before the end of the first minute, the vocals set in and I have to say I disliked them from the very beginning. Some notes just appear false or disharmonic to me, I honestly do not know if this is intended and supposed to give the music a special taste, but I easily got annoyed and even the adequate musical background did not manage to please me.

‘All that you were’ begins with a somehow country and grooving rock structure, but in the chorus, different voices sing together, again in a disharmonic way. Somehow, I started to get frustrated. Some songs (for instance ‘Never break’) begin in a nice way, but as soon as the vocals set in, I just cannot stand the music any longer. So, there are probably people who do not have a problems with the sung stile, therefore I would recommend them to make up their own mind about THE LIDOCAINE and not to get too influenced and irritated about my ranting.
