REIZstrom - Dwarfs like Giants

Album Review

German electronic duo REIZSTROM released the debut album only last year, but it seems the musicians didn’t waste their time and already the sophomore album which became an adequate successor of ‘Zettel am Zeh’, came out this autumn and contains 13 original tracks with 4 remixes this time. The new creation entitled ‘Dwarfs like Giants’ doesn’t strike your imagination a lot, especially at the very beginning but further the material is getting more and more diverse and rich. The opening piece still suffers from some monotony and may be tiring a bit while the vocals in their turn plunge into a peaceful drowse. But the following composition demonstrates more vivacity and expressiveness however inscribing in the same melodic frame.

However, as the album proceeds this frame really varies and each next song attracts with new electronic effects, clear-cut rhythm or meaningful lyrics, so there are a lot of surprises for patient listeners. Driving, danceable songs alternate with thought-provoking, even dark ones in which music and lyrics create an imponderable atmosphere of melancholy. Actually, all the tracks have their own unique mood and after some time you may find yourself under the spell of the music. Another thing about the album that also pleases is an even, measured structure of the compositions as the musicians didn’t try to ignore the main tunes, staking on the breaking of a vigorous, catchy chorus and in general everything is just smooth and very accessible.

Among the tracks I’d like to mark out are the deep ‘The Hurting Light’, the mesmerizing ‘The Plague’ and the only song in German entitled ‘Mensch gegen Mensch’. ‘Fools Are Blind’ as closer is also a great piece of music without excessive complexity. For those who want to continue the journey through the world of REIZSTROM, there are qualitative remixes at the end of the album. All in all, ‘Dwarfs like Giants’ turned to be a peculiar work with a potential to win the hearts of lovers of electronic music.
