But those songs do not only incite to dance or pogo, they have a serious background as singer and guitarist Tim McIlrath explains: “RISE AGAINST was always a political band but also a band which deals with very personal themes in their songs. Our songs have always united those two worlds and I personally find introspection plays a much bigger role on the new record”. Besides the music, RISE AGAINST are politically engaged and support organizations like PETA and Sea Shepherd. They also collaborated with Amnesty International's ‘Chimes of Freedom – The Songs of Bob Dylan Compilation’ and engaged with the ‘Demand a Plan’ movement against armed violence or acted strongly against homophobia and bullying in the frame of the ‘It Gets Better Project’ for which they wrote the song ‘Make It Stop (September's Children)’.
