Many fans asked themselves, what is going on with WOLFSHEIM. Since the release of the album ‘Casting Shadows’ in 2005 it went silent around the band. Now we know why. A press release from the attorney of Markus Reinhardt reached us, saying that both musicians will go separate ways and Markus Reinhardt is anxious to continue WOLFSHEIM with a new singer because he didn’t agree to Peter’s solo plans. Here’s the declaration of the attorney’s office according to the letter:

Legal dispute about WOLFSHEIM

Since the release of the album ‘Casting Shadows’ (2003) there was no new album of the group WOLFSHEIM. Now it’s clear why it became so silent around WOLFSHEIM. The common creative work of ‘WOLFSHEIM’ founder Markus Reinhardt and singer Peter Heppner is close to its end.

There’s a disagreement between the two partners about the continuation of the group WOLFSHEIM since 2005.The controversy came to a head after singer Peter Heppner signed a solo contract with Warner Music for several albums at the end of 2005 and therefore stepped into competition to ‘WOLFSHEIM’ in the opinion of WOLFSHEIM founder Markus Reinhardt. The idea of singer Peter Heppner to release the solo album with the correlating promotion and tour activities and to adjourn the production of a new WOLFSHEIM album until a not clearly specified moment in time and to re-start it after the year 2009 at the earliest was not acceptable for Markus Reinhardt with respect to the fans.

Meanwhile, the WOLFSHEIM founder announced the exclusion of singer Peter Heppner from the association WOLFSHEIM and put in a lawsuit at the regional court Hamburg to determine the validity of the exclusion of Peter Heppner to end the idleness with WOLFSHEIM and to continue the work for the project.

The incitation of the regional court to come to a amicable arrangement in the course of the retirement of Peter Heppner dashed against the perceptions of the singer. The court expressed that a common continuation of the work of both artists seems to be impossible because of unbridgeable differences.

WOLFSHEIM needs to change its artistic face now, even if the WOLFSHEIM founder Markus Reinhardt points out that the style and the artistic orientation should survive. Markus Reinhardt also wants to intensify the talks with his label Strange Ways Records.

A decision of the regional courtyard about the lawsuit directed against Peter Heppner on the occasion of his competing solo activities is expected for the course of spring 2008 like Markus Reinhardt’s attorney (Office of Kamin + Wilke, Hamburg) said.
