pixies europe2025Cult band PIXIES live in Germany in May with a new album! Anyone who has ever danced at an 80s party or sung in a karaoke bar knows: the PIXIES are immortal. With their legendary hit ‘Where Is My Mind?’ and a total of eight studio albums, they have made music history and shaped the grunge sound of the 1990s like few other bands. Black Francis and Joey Santiago founded the Rock band in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. Bassist Kim Deal and drummer Dave Lovering joined through a newspaper ad, and the first demos were recorded, leading to the PIXIES’ first release in 1987 with the EP ‘Come On Pilgrim’.

Just one year later, their debut album ‘Surfer Rosa’ was released, gaining worldwide fame with the single ‘Where Is My Mind?’. The next major milestone came in 1989 with the album ‘Doolittle’, still considered one of the most influential works in Rock history and marking their commercial breakthrough. Despite growing solo projects and other band ventures from the members, the PIXIES quickly released two more albums: ‘Bossanova’ in 1990 and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ in 1991. However, tensions within the band increased during a support tour for U2, and in 1993 Black Francis announced the band’s breakup.

After a hiatus of over twelve years, they reunited in 2004 - initially just for a reunion tour, but later for additional tours and festival appearances. In 2013, fans were dealt another blow: Kim Deal left the band. Despite this setback, the PIXIES released ‘Indie City’ the following year, their first album in 21 years, which was celebrated by both the press and fans. Regular releases followed, including ‘Head Carrier’, ‘Beneath the Eyrie’, and most recently ‘Doggerel’.

This October, the highly anticipated ninth studio album from the PIXIES, ‘The Night The Zombies Came’, will be released, fittingly right before Halloween. After long-time bassist Paz Lenchantin left in March, the new album was recorded with her successor Emma Richardson, known for her energetic performances with her previous project, BAND OF SKULLS. Like all PIXIES albums, ‘The Night The Zombies Came’ is heavily influenced by cinematic themes - ranging from melodic ballads to powerful Punk songs that blend the storytelling styles of horror films, old Folk tales, and iconic Westerns. Along with the new bassist, Joey Santiago has also taken on an expanded role: previously active only as a guitarist, he started co-writing on ‘Doggerel’ and contributed more lyrics for this album. Together with producer Tom Dalgety, who has produced all the band’s songs since ‘Head Carrier’, the PIXIES form a well-oiled team.

After accompanying PEARL JAM on their world tour in November, the PIXIES will embark on their biggest headline tour since the reunion in 2025. This tour will feature over 70 concerts worldwide - how wonderful that the PIXIES will also make three stops in Germany. A highlight for both old and new fans!
