Pixies - “P40 - Celebrating 40 Years Tour 2026”

Forty years is a long time, yet the PIXIES, the defiant band from Boston, seem to have repeatedly defied the gravity of history. Their story begins in 1986 with a modest newspaper ad: Charles Thompson, better known as Black Francis, and guitarist Joey Santiago were looking for a bassist who appreciated Hüsker Dü as much as Peter, Paul and Mary.

Kim Deal responded - without a bass, without experience, but with an attitude that would shape the sound of the coming years. Together with drummer David Lovering, they formed a band whose name was randomly picked from the dictionary: PIXIES. From the first rehearsals in Lovering’s garage to the first release ‘Come On Pilgrim’, only a few months passed.

Soon, the PIXIES sounded like nothing that had come before: surreal, loud, aggressive, yet full of strangely beautiful melodies. ‘Surfer Rosa’ and especially ‘Doolittle’ made them pioneers of a new rock aesthetic by the late 1980s, whose influence remains undeniable. Kurt Cobain later admitted that when writing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, he had simply tried to copy the PIXIES.

Yet what made the band so extraordinary - the fragile balance between Francis’ eruptive songwriting, Santiago’s angular riffs, and Deal’s unmistakable vocal lines - also threatened to tear them apart. In 1993, it was over; the PIXIES disbanded. A shock for many fans, a necessary break for the musicians.

When they reunited in 2004, the surprise was huge: the band played bigger than ever, delighting old and new generations alike, and launching a second creative phase. Since then, new albums have been released and tours have followed one after another.

Live, the band remains an event above all. From their early chaotic club shows, where they shattered rock conventions, to today’s festivals, PIXIES have redefined the live experience. No anecdotes, no small talk - just a relentless barrage of song after song, a sound that is raw yet precise. This is not about nostalgia; it’s about immediate intensity.

With the “P40 - Celebrating 40 Years Tour”, the band celebrates their anniversary in 2026. After stops in the UK and across Europe, three Germany dates have also been confirmed. In the summer of 2026, PIXIES will show why, after four decades, they remain one of the most important bands of the present day.
