Review Flash
Japanese/ German collective GOTHIKA formed in 2001 and cite their influences as RAMMSTEIN, OMD and BAUHAUS, although it’s hard to hear just where these influences kick-in. It’s poppy and pleasant on many of the tracks, dancy and infectious enough throughout. Somewhat at odds, then, with the band’s Facebook claim that “Vocalist Andro's immoral lyrics that are deeply related to perverted sexual experience administer the tablet to the people who hold sickness in mind” whatever the hell that means. Basically, they’re not half as nasty and dirty as they’d like to think, the David Sylvian - sounding vocals and driving electro-pop certainly good enough. Neither ground-breaking, offensive nor bland. Probably a better live experience as one suspects the visuals are key here.
Conclusion: Bounce around electro-new-wave-pop, making this more conducive to humming and tapping than grinding and groaning.
