Review Flash

They really want you to like this album. Berlin based, so that's the cool factor checked. Zany band title with the oh-so-enigmatic bracketed "the" giving it some mystique. Elias Matt, gooning from the press releases like a velvety cross between a younger IGGY POP and PHILIP BOA. So all that remains, if they really want you to like this album, is to pump it to bursting point with fantastic songs.

Ooops.

The unintentionally comical lyrics aren't helped by an irritating vocal style that's more a sleazy, monotone rap at times. 'Under Attack' for example is amateur at best, and the female vocals on 'Life Is Too Long', while offering some relief and variation, are too weak, and the stuttering beat and sparse instrumentation render it hollow and lacking. By 'Berlin Surreal (1970-1989)', you may just want to end it all. If 'Berlin' was a washing powder, and this a commercial jingle, sales would rocket. Alas it isn't, it's just a horrible song with an insanely annoying chorus. 'Shut Up' and 'Monkey Town' try to save the day, but it's too tall an order by far.

Conclusion: At least they look good.
