Review Flash

MUSTASCH is a Swedish heavy metal band that was formed in 1998 in Gothenburg. The band was created by Ralf Gyllenhammar, Hannes Hansson, Mats Hansson, and Mats Johansson. They recorded some demos at the “Mustasch Farm” on the island Orust. After releasing their first EP ‘The Sound of the New West’ in 2001, the band went on tour and started to make a name for themselves in the Swedish scene. The band stated that the reason they chose the name MUSTASCH is that many of their musical heroes had moustaches (upon the mentioned idols are Tony Iommi and Freddie Mercury). MUSTASCH won a Swedish Grammy with their second record ‘Ratsafari’. The band faced staff changes and switched to the label Regain Records. They have released eight albums to date and their reputation is building. The new song material is very variable (in the best possible way) and singer Ralf Gyllenhammar knows how to sing that`s for sure. He sings screams and partially even shouts his way through the songs, and the rest of the band supports him very efficient with twin leads (as in ‘Feared and Hated’) among other niceties. The band`s sound is very subserve to the songs and makes the record a compelling one.

Conclusion: If you are into punk rock and classic rock influenced metal music you should check MUSTASCH`s new record. Gyllenhammar`s voice is a class of its own (reminding me of Ian Astbury sometimes). I hope to see them on tour soon.
