Oh Canada, once again baby! You don’t know DEAD QUIET? Me neither , but let’s change that! DEAD QUIET is a five-piece Stoner band with a disturbing Doom feeling that always lurks in the background right under each and every note of the always present Hammond organ. Kevin Keegan on vocals is a mixture of Magnus Pelander (WITCHCRAFT) and Robert Röttig (LUNAR SHADOW), his voice rips and tears through the narrative, he sounds hurt and suffering yet dominant in the way he violently expresses his anger and helplessness. ‘Cold Grey Death’ is the perfect example for the sound of Keegan on vocals accompanied by strings, beats and keystrokes. Big compliment for every artist involved. The sound is deep, complex yet accessible. I don’t want this to sound like a putting down to someone but like with GHOST I get the feeling that the instruments build a stage for Keegan’s vocal presence, I personally really like this approach.
Conclusion: If you like to be challenged by the sound of a band you should give this a go, it is strenuous and demanding but worth the time and energy.
