Review Flash

Sometimes I come to think that the spirit that once originated in Birmingham, Barnsley, Derbyshire, and later on continued in altered, mutated form in the San Francisco Bay Area of the USA (San Francisco, Palo Alto, Berkeley) and the German Ruhr area (Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Düsseldorf and Bochum) meanwhile resides in South America. STORMTHRASH are hailing from Caracas, Venezuela and they straight up aim for the throat. The notion that great, passionate heavy music uses to be played in regions that suck either economically, politically or even both (cities, countries that give the residents a hard time for just being alive). Venezuela is according to a more current study considered as the most dangerous place on earth, if you listen closely to STORMTHRASH you can make out the rather aggressive atmosphere of their Thrash Metal. STORMTHRASH’s lyrical themes often deal with death, doom, violence and aggression. Alejandro Florez on vocal duty serves as the executioner in the front while batterista Argenis Betancourt conducts the attack with his exact pacing and Bassman Guillén convoys with six-string duo Fuentes and Llovera to annihilate the crowd (or, in this case, just me). Musically this is brilliantly played but with a level of ferocity that breaks necks left and right. Thank you Keith Morash for showing me these daredevils.

Conclusion: If you dig any kind of Thrash (hard, fast, melodic, demonic etc) just give these guys a few spins and support the South American heavy metal scene.
